Matt Silvey

Matt spent 22 years as a Deputy Sheriff in California, a career from which he retired in 2019. He is a California POST certified Firearms Instructor, a court recognized firearms expert and he has taken hundreds of hours of advanced firearms training classes. He was a Field Training Officer for five years, and he was a full-time EVOC instructor for the final three years of his career. During his career as a Deputy Sheriff, he was directly involved in two officer involved shootings, and incidentally in the investigation of many others. Matt began his writing career with a political blog but quickly moved to writing about firearms and law enforcement related issues where he wrote under his pen name, “Deputy Matt,” as department policy prevented him writing under his real name. His writings have been published by the print magazine Guns and Weapons for Law Enforcement, the New York Post, The Daily Caller, The Bang Switch, here at Full30, and on his own blog, Deputy Matt & Others Who Serve. Matt brings a unique perspective to Full30 given his LEO experience and life time appreciation of firearms and our 2nd Amendment rights.
