Similar Does Not Equal Same

All I have been reading and hearing over the last two days is how evil the AR-15 is, and how it is “nearly identical” to the M-16. This is coming from news stations, political pundits, politicians, and every anti-gun leftist on the planet. Twitter and Facebook are flooded with people who know nothing about guns screaming about how evil and super ultra mega deadly the AR-15 is.

Well, I hate to break it to all of you uneducated folks out there, but cosmetic similarities does not identical make…

Since when speaking about guns, the left is unable to maintain any semblance of rational thought, let me use two cars as an example of similar, but not same. Take the two cars pictured below. They are both Dodge Challengers. The look very much alike to the untrained eye, but there is a significant difference between them. You see, the car on the top is powered by a 305hp V6 engine. While that level of horsepower is nothing to sneeze at, it is nothing in comparison to the 707hp Hellcat V8 that powers the car on the bottom. Similar appearance, not remotely the same…

The same thing is true in the gun world. While the AR-15 and the M-16 have many cosmetic similarities, there are some major differences between them, namely the fact that the M-16 is capable of either fully automatic fire or burst fire, depending on which variant you are looking at. Similar appearance, not remotely the same…

Turns out, this whole AR-15 hoopla has been nothing more than a waste of time. As is often the case, the media got the gun wrong, yet again. The suspect was not in fact armed with an AR-15, but was actually armed with a Sig Sauer MCX.

CBS News senior investigative producer Pat Milton reports during the assault, Mateen, 29, was armed with a Sig Sauer MCX rifle, purchased on June 4, and a a Glock 17 handgun, purchased on June 5. The weapons were purchased legally, according to the ATF. Authorities have also said a .38 caliber weapon was found in his vehicle.”

The Sig Sauer MCX is a semi-automatic modern sporting rifle that is chambered in, among other calibers, 5.56 NATO (.223 Rem). It is black, has a pistol grip, and a stock, and uses the same magazines as an AR-15, but it is most definitely NOT an AR-15.

Some similarity in appearance, not remotely the same…

Getting beyond all of this “which scary gun was it” BS, when is the left ever going to learn that it is not about the gun, it is about the individual, it is about evil. If your first thought after an Islamic terrorist attack takes place is that we need to ban guns, you are part of the problem, not the solution.
